About me
Julia Barta is an undergraduate student at Wayne State University working
towards her B.S. in Health Science with a background in psychology. She is also a student
research assistant aiding in the research of the STELLA Lab. She currently coaches
recreational gymnastics and is pre-OT, hoping to go into the OTD program. Julia is passionate
about finding ways to help people and their mental health, with a focus on pediatrics.
Julia combines her knowledge of psychology and experience coaching to put towards therapy
dog programs and how they can be beneficial in different fields. She hopes to have an impact
on therapy dog programs and advocating for the mental health of children. Working closely with
children for the past few years and gaining more knowledge in the STELLA Lab has opened a
new perspective for her to apply anecdotal knowledge in K-12 school settings. Julia is excited to
be a part of the integration of animal-assisted programs and the increase in access to mental
health opportunities in K-12 settings.
