About me
Ben Atchison, PhD, OTL, FAOTA is Professor Emeritus of Occupational Therapy at Western Michigan University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Western Michigan University and graduate degrees in education from Georgia State University (M.Ed.) and Wayne State University (PhD). As the co-founder of the interprofessional WMU Children’s Trauma Assessment Center, his clinical work and research is focused on complex childhood trauma. Dr. Atchison has published in varied professional journals and textbook chapters along with numerous professional presentations at local, state, national, and international conferences. He is the co-editor of the textbook Conditions in Occupational Therapy, currently in its 6th edition. Dr. Atchison served as Managing Editor of the Journal of Occupational Therapy and is Co-Director of the WMU Sammons Center for Innovation and Research in Occupation Based Technology. He is a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the AOTA Award of Merit. He is also a Fellow of the Michigan Occupational Therapy Association and past recipient of the MiOTA Award of Excellence.
