About me
Christine Kivlen, PhD, OTRL is an Assistant Professor (Clinical) and Doctoral Capstone Coordinator in the Occupational Therapy program at Wayne State University. She is the founder and director of the STELLA Lab (STudent Education Learning aLongside Animals), where her work focuses on human–animal interaction and the integration of therapy dogs to support student well-being, stress reduction, and learning.Dr. Kivlen’s scholarship centers on mental health, interprofessional education, and innovative approaches to student support, including the use of canine-assisted interventions and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in education and assessment. She leads interdisciplinary initiatives across multiple health professions and is actively engaged in research examining the impact of therapy dog programming on graduate student outcomes.
