About me
Since Katie believes that health and well-being is promoted and maintained best through daily engagement in beloved routines and interests in a chosen supportive environment, she started her own community based OT practice in 2025. She helps older adults integrate and flourish in place with optimal autonomy. She trains and educates professional, family and volunteer care partners on how best to support people to live well with dementia and other chronic health conditions as well.She helped to establish the Ease the Day (ETD) Respite Care Program at Chelsea Senior Center from 2023 to 2025. She helped to plan and implemented the Positive Approach to Care ™ (PAC) in care practices for a CCRC and a reopened adult day health center in North Carolina. She was the recipient of the 2024 EMU Outstanding Alumni Award and a 2025 Michigan Occupational Therapy Association Award of Excellence. She is a proud member of AOTA and Mi-OTA since 2009. She serves on the Michigan Dementia Coalition, volunteers with the National Council of Dementia Minds as a facilitator, serves on the Dementia Friendly Chelsea Task Force, and is a community resource for a network of memory cafes in southeast Michigan.
