Spinal cord injuries sustained during participation in a preferred sport can result in a significant loss of athletic identity and a decline in mental health. However, the most effective therapeutic approaches to support these individuals remain unclear. This topic is particularly relevant to Occupational Therapy (OT), as practitioners play a critical role in supporting clients in everyday life as they reconstruct their identity and adapt to new meaningful occupations. Athletes who have acquired SCIs require a multidimensional approach to best support all aspects of their well-being. Providing educational opportunities to occupational therapy professionals and other practitioners could enhance their knowledge on unique strategies to support this population may improve the quality of care and quality of life for this population.
