People with Down syndrome are at a higher risk for developing certain health conditions, dementia, or Alzheimer's (Grieco et al., 2015). This review synthesizes literature on aging and dementia in individuals with Down syndrome, emphasizing occupational therapy's role in assessment and intervention. Methods: An Arksey and O’Malley (2005) scoping review framework was used to search five databases. Results were summarized using a numerical summary and thematic analysis. Results: Twenty articles met the inclusion criteria. Quantitative results describe variation across research designs, outcome measures, intervention foci, and settings. Conclusion: There is a need to establish evidence-based guidelines and a standard of care for persons with DS with early-onset dementia. Limitations: Database searches were limited to the researcher's institution, potentially missing relevant articles and excluding pertinent studies outside of occupational therapy. Implications to Practice: This scoping review informs evidence-based occupational therapy for aging individuals with DS and dementia, enhancing functional performance and quality of life.
