MiOTA Fall Conference 2026
Welcome to MiOTA’s Fall Conference 2026!
Saturday October 3, 2026 1:00pm - 2:00pm CDT
All occupational therapy (OT) is mental health. Whether you’re working with a dysregulated and overstimulated child, an elderly person nervous about having yet another fall, or a young adult in need of hand therapy after an instance of self-harm, all OT practitioners will have to address the mental health needs of their clients at some point. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) can provide the OT practitioner with powerful tools they can teach their clients in order to both change and accept their emotions, thoughts, relationships, and circumstances. This presentation will provide attendees with a general understanding of the basics of DBT and explore the complementary connections between OT and DBT.
OBJECTIVES
○ Gain a general understanding of the basics of Dialectical Behavior Therapy
○ Be able to identify ways that Dialectical Behavior Therapy and OT practice
and principles complement each other
○ Learn about DEARMAN, a set of DBT skills that can be used in OT practice
